America Flourished
when we taxed the rich!
What does this mean?  More than the rich individuals, the tax cuts to the huge corporations separated them from
their responsibility to their communities.  Too many large corporations avoid paying a fair share of taxes by moving
their main offices off shore and then they take their manufacturing out of our country.  When huge corporations don't
pay their fair share of tax the rest of us have to pay it for them.  Before the Regan tax cuts people got rich, they just
didn't get so disgustingly rich that they could afford to buy or intimidate our Senators and Representatives.
Dictators and Monarchs
tax the poor!
What does this mean?  If you look into any dictatorship in the world, historically or currently, they take as much
money from the poor as they possibly can.  The history of monarchies, kingdoms, is that the kings were very rich and
the people lived in poverty.
What does this mean?  America's greatness has always been our ability to take care of ourselves and to help take
care of others.  Simply removing the cap on our Social Security tax so that people who are paid a whole lot of money
end up paying the same percentage of their wages as people who are not quite covering all of their bills.  That is fair.
If the really rich and the huge corporations paid their share of taxes we could provide health care for everybody in our
country with no exceptions.  We could put all of our children through school, including college, at no direct cost to us.

Some people feel that no tax is a good tax.  But those same people expect the paramedics to come to their home in
an emergency and for our police to keep the "bad" people away from us, etc.  We cannot have these services if we
don't pay for them.

Some feel that there is terrible waste in our government.  I agree that there is waste, we need to bring our troops
home, to end our wars of aggression and the subsequent occupations that are costing us hundreds of BILLIONS of
dollars every year.  We spend one fifth of our entire national budget on our military and we are fighting two wars
against countries that have no air force and no navy and no army.  Why is it so expensive to fight against two
countries that have no standing army, no air force and no navy?  That is a "great waste" that we can cut from our
budget that will make the biggest difference in how much we pay in taxes and how comfortable our lives can become.

Since these are huge issues I would like to ask that we all work to share the load.  Presently we have given tax
breaks to the really rich in our nation and here in New Mexico.  If we returned our tax rates to what they were when
President Regan came into office, we would take the burden off of the middle class and the poor.  Interestingly, no
rich person would lose their fortune as a result of this action.  That is fair, and it solves a huge problem.

That corporations are now paying their CEOs at least 100 times more than comparable corporations in other
industrialized countries is further indication that our laws as well as our taxes are skewed to benefit the rich.  We
have to act to regain control of our country.  We can do this by voting intelligently and then holding our elected
officials to act on the issues that we elected them on.
If we re-tax the rich we could be
America the Great - again!
